Overall,
Kill Bill Vol. 2 was a disappointment for me. As I expressed in my previous post, I absolutely loved
Kill Bill Vol. 1. It was a masterpiece. I think that is mainly because of how Quentin opens the film in a way that makes you get interested and then have to wait and think in a daze during the plain opening credits.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 was opened in a rather pathetic sort of "Welcome back, folks!" feel, when I would have rather been welcomed back than have been told so. I do understand that Quentin wrote the Kill Bill epic as one cohesive film, but I think he has the smarts to have been able to come up with a clever opening to the second part. However, Chapter 6: The Massacre at Two Pines was really great and made up for the poor opening. Anyway, the first problem that the Bride encounters leads to a too-long flashback to when she was being trained in China (Chapter 8: The Cruel Tutelage of Pai Mei). I found this chapter rather boring to be completely honest, and the end of it (back in the present) to be a bit ridiculous, but entertaining nonetheless. (Sorry to be so vague, I would hate to ruin key plot points for those of you who have yet to see it.) I liked the ending to the Kill Bill story a lot actually, so it is still hard for me to decide which movie I liked better. Which do you like better?
