Kill Bill Vol. 1

This Tarantino-directed feature is about a bride who wakes up from a coma after a squad of assassins -- that she used to be a part of -- attempt to kill her just before getting married. I was pleasantly surprised at how brilliant this movie was. Quentin took a subject that I have absolutely zero interest in (Asian-trained warriors) and kept my utter interest and awe the entire time. Uma Thurman's overacting worked really well for this dramatic piece. The opening of the film, including the plain black-and-white opening credits being played to a perfect Nancy Sinatra song, set you up for entertainment throughout the film. The first half-hour or so is my favorite part of the movie, but that does not mean that I didn't enjoy the rest of it: it was just that good. I love that the Bride's name is kept revealed, and the ending makes you excited to see Vol. 2. Yet another masterpiece by Quentin Tarantino, one of the greatest minds in the history of cinema.
