American Horror Story -- Season 1

Note: This review is about the Pilot and Season 1 in general. Season 2 has different characters, settings, and storylines. I will review Season 2 when I get there. :)

This show is about a family that moves to Los Angeles from the Boston area. The dad had an affair with a young girl back in Boston, so to get a fresh start, the family moves in an attempt to escape its past. Well this family of three is mistaken. The new house, nicknamed "the murder house," proves that the past can never be forgotten. Ghosts of the former owners of this doomed house show up all the time, and not all of them are very nice. The Pilot was probably the scariest episode, but that may just be because I was surprised that the show is actually scary, unlike many horror movies (I don't want to name any to avoid offending anybody who may get scared easily). I even found the opening credits sequence to be terrifying every time I saw it. Plus, I watched it in the dark all by myself on my iPad. Anyway, I love the drama between Vivien and Constance, played by a flawlessly overdramatic Jessica Lange. Constance is the next-door neighbor to the murder house and is not shy in advising the Harmons (the current occupants of the notorious house) how to live their lives. Vivien Harmon is one of my favorite characters, mainly because she always says the same thing: "I need to get out of this house," or some variation of the same meaning. Moira, the maid, whether you like her or not, is a fascinating character. Something she says to Mr. Ben Harmon toward the end of the season was truly genius and emotional. Of course, the storyline between Violet and Tate (and someone else...) was really imaginative. Season 1 keeps you hooked from the very first few minutes, and I cannot wait to see Season 2.
