Terrence Malick's newest film, To the Wonder, explores faithfulness (or lack thereof) in relationships and the power of love. As can be seen in the trailer, Malick is up to his usual philosophical cinematography, which includes his common shots of sunlight peering through the leaves on trees. For those of you who have been following Ben Affleck for at least the past few months, it should be interesting to see him acting in someone else's movie after the whole Argo phenomenon. Whether it be the poetic, wishy-washy pans of the camera, or the scarcity of dialogue (in comparison to most modern movies), this film has the potential for the same feedback as Malick's critically-acclaimed Tree of Life. Critics are sure to moderately love it (like Robert Ebert generally expressed in his last review), while most average people will probably leave theaters with wrinkled foreheads. I will make sure I report back when I see it (hopefully this upcoming Friday when it officially comes out). Let me know how you feel about it!
