Restless

This Gus Van Sant-directed dramedy is about a boy (Enoch), who attends strangers' funerals in his spare time, and a girl (Annabel), who has three months left to live with a brain tumor, who fall in love as their tragic stories click into place. When I started watching this movie, I found the boy's concept slightly corny, but later in the movie a reason for his attending funerals makes you feel even more sympathetic for him. The girl is played by Mia Wasikowska, who is charming as a "kid with cancer" who loves to read about evolution, especially of water birds Although this movie did not get much buzz, it really connected with me and I thought it was nice to see another side of Gus as a director. In case you haven't noticed, he isn't the sort to make romantic comedies all the time. Anyway, there is also a third main character, Hiroshi, a WWII veteran ghost with whom Enoch likes to play Battleship. Perhaps you have to have a little mushy side to you in order to like this indie, okay I guess you have to, or at least need to have lost someone who meant a lot to you, but I thought it was pretty good. Definitely worth a shot; it's only an hour and a half. Let me know what you think in the comments section below!
