I'm Still Here

It's funny, I just thought about this title relating to my blog life. I'm Still Here is a fake documentary following Joaquin Phoenix's retirement from acting in order to pursue a career in rapping. Through the process he gains a lot of weight and basically lives like a rich bum. It has been described as "that cinematic car accident you can't take your eyes from," which is really the best description of this peculiarity. This is Casey Affleck's directorial debut, although that sounds a bit generous given that it is in the style of a documentary, which typically lacks much creative input from behind the camera. However, there is talent shown in that Affleck and Phoenix had nearly the whole country convinced that he had gone bonkers. Nevertheless, this movie, whatever it may be, is downright hilarious. It's hard to say anything else about the movie because the whole time you sort of scrunch up your face like, "Is he for real?" This is a question many still ponder. On IMDb you will not find this title under his acting credits, rather it is under "self." If you think about it, he did take years off from acting to do this documentary project, even turning down roles to continue on with it. I can assure you that it was fake, especially with Phoenix clearing the air publicly on David Letterman's show. In the movie he goes on Letterman's show as his fake self without telling Dave ahead of time that he was acting. It turns out that Affleck and Phoenix wanted to explore the relationship between celebrities and the media. I think they did a fairly good job.
