2 or 3 Things I Know About Her

2 or 3 Things I Know About Her is a film by the famed French director Jean-Luc Godard. It is a philosophical piece that examines the new aspects of Paris in the 1960s. The main character, although you could argue that the Parisian community as a whole runs the show, is Juliette. She was a prostitute who fell in love with one of her customers, married him, had kids with him, and was asked by him to return to the prostitution business for more income. While following her unfulfilling journey, we also encounter other Parisians. Some at cafes, bars, boutiques. No single plot, including that of Juliette's life, is truly displayed. Rather, Godard exposes us just beneath the surface of several people in order to provoke thought about the state of the world and its inhabitants at the time. This coincides with war in Vietnam, new structures being built around town, and the mid-twentieth-century European lifestyle. A different, intriguing movie to watch, but only if you feel like thinking.
