This cute indie stars Ryan Gosling as a loner who is afraid of talking to other people. In his loneliness he buys an adult-sized sex doll, who he names Bianca. This strange relationship enables him to deal with his personal issues by giving Bianca some of his own traits. Bianca gets medical help, which actually ends up being targeted toward Lars (Gosling). In this movie, we see a different side of Gosling that is new and refreshing. After having seen his tremendous performance in The Place Beyond the Pines, this proves to me his great acting abilities. The storytelling was impressive, having subliminal messages and symbolism beneath all the charm. I genuinely felt bad for Lars by the middle of the movie, and not just because Gosling embodied him.
