This independent dramedy is about a recent graduate (Bethany) of home school who leaves her mom's house to pursue fashion and freedom at her gay dad's house. There she befriends her dad's much-younger boyfriend and gets a job at a local clothing store. Bethany is played by Ashley Rickards (who plays Jenna on the hilarious Awkward.) and Anna Gunn (who plays Skylar on the brilliant Breaking Bad) plays her overprotective mom. I thought Rickards gave a fitting performance, and Gunn made her character the annoying person she was supposed to be (although I thought she was often too annoying, if you know what I mean). There was really nothing special about this movie. Rather predictable, the increasingly transparent story did not supply me with a catharsis of any sort. It almost reminded me of From Prada to Nada or of some coming-of-age Mexican movies I have seen. Additionally, the young boyfriend was not believable whatsoever; however, he got a smile or two out of me due to his ridiculousness. Is this movie worth your time? I don't think so. Is it watchable enough to add to your Instant Queue on Netflix to put on in a time of despair? Surely! Thoughts?
