Alan Arkin -- I think Alan Arkin, who plays a Hollywood producer, did a nice job handling the comedic relief in Ben Affleck's beloved
Argo. His catch phrase (go see the movie) was delivered in a hilarious manner and was memorable months after seeing the film. On the contrary, I don't think his performance deserves the golden statue this year.
Robert De Niro -- As Bradley Cooper's dad in
Silver Linings Playbook, De Niro had some touching father-son moments. I was surprised to see his name overshadowing solid performances from
Les Misérables (Eddie Redmayne),
Django Unchained (Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, and even Walton Goggins).
Philip Seymour Hoffman -- Unfortunately, I have not seen
The Master. However, in the many clips I have seen, he appears to be flawless and majestic as the cult leader featured in Paul Thomas Anderson's film. I would not be disappointed one bit if he were to win.
Tommy Lee Jones -- Now,
Lincoln is in no way on my list of the top movies this year, but I understand why Daniel Day-Lewis has been showered with awards. On the other hand, I was not especially touched by Jones' performance.
Christoph Waltz -- Waltz was fantastic as a German bounty hunter in
Django Unchained. His ability to speak fluent German enhanced his role with believability and authenticity. I would love to see him represent Tarantino's new masterpiece up on that stage on Sunday.
In my opinion, Waltz or the talented Hoffman should win the Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role this year. What do you think? Comment below!
