12/29/12 - Homeland
This is a Showtime series which depicts the career life of an independent woman of the CIA (Carrie) who tries to prove that an officer (Brody) returning home from Iraq eight years after going missing is in cahoots with an enemy government alliance to attack America. Despite my usual animosity toward what I like to call "cop shows," (My definition of "cop shows" -- anything faintly reminiscent of NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, Numbers, House, Lie to Me, etc. Obviously, these are not all "cop shows" by the standard definition, but to me they all seem to possess the same monotonous script with slight changes in each episode. Sorry.) this show was actually quite enjoyable. Perhaps this was because of the more elaborate storylines than those on your typical network "cop shows." I am referring to how Carrie takes medicinal pills to sway her mood disorder; Brody's wife's affair and lingering affections for the contractor; and the fact that the entire series for I am guessing at least the first two seasons focusses on Brody. Why did Brody kill his fellow American troop? Will Brody's wife confess to cheating and/or leave him for the other guy? Is Carrie alright to be in the CIA despite her mental disorder? Will she get the U.S. government to believe her that Brody is a terrorist? These are questions that you may actually want to stick around for to have answered.
